The Southern Patagonian Icefield of Argentina and Chile is the southern remnant of the Patagonia Ice Sheet that covered the southern Andes Mountains during the last ice age. This detailed astronaut photograph illustrates the terminus of one of the icefield’s many spectacular glaciers—Upsala Glacier, located on the eastern side of the icefield. Upsala is the third largest glacier in the icefield, and like most other glaciers in the region, it has experienced significant retreat over the past century.

Nicknamed "the Third Pole," Asia's Tibetan Plateau contains the world’s largest persistent ice mass outside of the Arctic and Antarctica. On January 5, 2007, the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on NASA's Terra satellite captured this image showing part of a glacier-capped mountain chain about 110 kilometers (70 miles) west-northwest of the Tibetan city of Lhasa.

After making landfall in Central America, Tropical Storm Ida traveled northward across the Gulf of Mexico and toward the southeastern United States. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of the storm on November 9, 2009, at 12:50 p.m. Central Standard Time (18:50 UTC). Ida maintains a roughly circular shape off the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Immediately to the east, a wall of clouds stretches southward over the Gulf of Mexico west of Florida. Storm clouds also extend far inland over the Gulf states.

Katabatic Winds Rake Antarctica's Terra Nova Bay

Just days away from the beginning of the Southern Hemisphere’s spring, Antarctica’s Inexpressible Island and the Northern Foothills Mountains were illuminated by a glimmer of sunlight from a low angle when the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite captured this image on September 16, 2009. The seaward slopes of the mountains are gleaming white, and they cast long shadows inland over the Nansen Ice Sheet. Terra Nova Bay appears in shadow.

With the majority of its land area lying within the Sahara Desert, dry, dusty Niger is one of the hottest countries on Earth. Only the southernmost regions of the country receive enough reliable precipitation to support agriculture or livestock grazing. In the north, rock outcrops and sand dunes predominate, although sporadic precipitation sometimes allows drought-adapted plants to grow in favorable locations, such as this wadi in northern Niger, not far from the Algerian border.

Hurricane Ida

Ida was a Category 1 hurricane on the morning of November 9, 2009, when the QuikSCAT satellite acquired the data used to make this image. The image shows wind fields in color and wind direction with small arrows. QuikSCAT observed the storm at 5:23 a.m., U.S. Central time. At 6:00 a.m., the National Hurricane Center warned that Ida had winds near 80 miles per hour (130 kilometers per hour), making it a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. By the time of the next warning, Ida had become a tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center forecast that Ida would come ashore near the border of Mississippi and Alabama on the morning of November 10.

Ολα τα μωρά στη πίστα του Berlusconi!

Τι τραβάει ο άνθρωπος με όλες αυτές τις μάγισσες που τον περιτριγυρίζουν στα 71 του χρόνια -"παίζει" το ματάκι του όμως, για προσέξτε! Θα έγραφα ότι τον τριγυρίζουν "όπως οι μέλισσες το μέλι", αλλά δε μου προκύπτει "μέλι" από πουθενά. Εκτός αν το μέλι βρίσκεται στη δύναμη της Εξουσίας. Εχω ακούσει ότι οι πολιτικοί άνδρες είναι οι πλέον δραστήριοι στο σεξ, αλλά μάλλον θα εννοούν -όσοι το λέν- άνδρες ΜΗ έλληνες. Οι δικοί μας εδώ πέρα κρατούν το γονίδιο ΕΛ εκ Σειρίου ερμητικά σφραγισμένο και δεν το δίνουν όπου λάχει.
Σε αυτό το σημείο, θα περίμενε κανείς να είναι λίγο πιο προοδευτικοί οι ορθόδοξοι από τους καθολικούς! πιο γενναιόδωροι, πιο γαλαντόμοι, ας πούμε...
